A proposta deste trabalho é a observação de uma leitura do Brasil construída pela produção visual de um artista gráfico, produção esta que se intercruza com a sua biografia. Nela, delimitamos dois momentos distintos de leitura. O primeiro que tem início em 1969 e atravessa a década de 70, e; explicando o surgimento e a evolução de um profissional como Elifas Andreato. Pretendo, nesta fase, identificar seu lugar social, suas crenças e suas relações com os meios jornalístico, artístico e político, assim como a sua inserção nas relações de produção que envolvem uma indústria de informação e a cultura do país no eixo Rio – São Paulo. Num segundo momento, a leitura privilegia o ilustrador entrando no campo da cultura e da arte contemporânea. Nessa fase, são analisadas as suas criações para capas de disco, capas de revistas e de livros, cartazes para teatro e instituições sindicais além de uma série de cartões natalinos. Esses dados traduzem, de uma certa forma, o gosto de um grupo de pessoas num determinado tempo. De um lado, temos a análise da técnica e de seus objetivos, do outro, a força de suas inspirações e seu reflexo social. The purpose of this study was the reading of Brasil based on the visual production of a graphic artist combined with his biography. Two moments of reading are delimited. The first, starting in 1969 and Crossing the sevent ies, expiains the appearance and development of a professional such as Elifas Andreato. The objetive, in the part was to identify his social place, beliefs, and relations with the journalistic, artistic, and politic environment, as well as his participation in the production relations which involve the country´s industry of information and culture in Rio / São Paulo. On a second moment, the reading favours the ilustrator, entering the fields of culture and contemporary art. In this part, his creations for record, magazine, and book covers, posters for the theater and labor organizations, as well as a series of Christmas cards, were analysed. This information somehow expresses the preferences of a group in a given period of time. In one hand, we have the analysis of the technique and their objectives.
