At that meeting, the intransigent defence of nationalinterests was seen as a key aspect for an active, mature and autonomous posture in face of hegemoniccenters of power - political position which the country can not discard, because its recognized strategiccapability. During the referred meeting has also been confirmed the wisdom of the presence of thestrategic event called international reactions to the brazilian leadership in EB 2022 Prospective Scenarios. Apoiando-se em idéias difundidas durante o VII Encontro Nacional de Estudos Estratégicos, ocorrido em novembro de 2007, em Brasília, este artigo apresenta questões relacionadas à Política de Defesa Nacional no quadro maior da inserção internacional do Brasil. Nesse encontro, a intransigente defesa dos interesses nacionais foi vista como aspecto fundamental para uma atuação ativa, madura e autônoma em relação a centros hegemônicos de poder — posicionamento político do qual o país não pode abrir mão, dada a sua reconhecida potencialidade estratégica. Durante o encontro, também se confirmou o acerto da presença do evento estratégico denominado de reações internacionais ao protagonismo brasileiro nos Cenários EB 2022.
